History
The Long Island Angel Network is incorporated as a New York non-stock not-for-profit corporation. In the past four years alone, LIAN has reviewed some 600+ applications for financing from start-up ventures and early-stage companies located on Long Island or potentially willing to relocate to the region with an investment commitment. Six investments have been closed since 2009 – the “hit” rate that typifies this form of investing.
LIAN’s closed investments as well as those pending are in Web-based and information technologies, medical diagnostics, cleantech, and novel concepts for traditional industries, representative of the diversity of deals reviewed by LIAN. A typical LIAN investment is developing a product or service prototype for which it has obtained or is seeking intellectual property protection, where such protection is appropriate and desirable. It is pre-revenue, although it may have alpha or beta customers, but the market for its product or service may not be fully defined and its business model may not be fully developed.
